Precepts Retreat this Week with Dave Cuomo

Hey Y'all,

Our most dedicated Zen alum, Dave Cuomo is coming town this week and leading a commuter retreat that we are co-hosting with the Wild Heart Meditation Center this weekend. *YES*  **FINALLY** (Sorry, We've been looking forward to doing an intersanhga thing with Wildheart since we moved in).

This is what you NZC folks need to know.

> Registration is through through WildHeart and can be done on their site here

> Please sign up for whatever day you wish to come or both when you get a chance so we know have an idea of what to expect.

> This is going to be retreat that's easy on the body because of all the yoga Dave packed into this bad boy (thanks, Dave!).

> For you zanny zennies that actually like the bits of ritual we do, you are in luck. Dave's gonna flex all that fancy zen priest learnin' he's been practicing in L.A. Saturday around 10am, we will do Love One Ceremony (think if the Heart Sutra and Metta sutra had a baby and it wanted everyone we loved to be happy). Sunday at noon, we will do a precepts ceremony. If you've been looking to formally take vow with the sangha, this is where you would start.

Full description and schedule is below.

One day full retreat Saturday, August 10th (9am to 6pm)
One half day retreat Sunday, August 11th (1pm-5pm)

Silent sitting in the Soto Zen tradition with just enough slow flow yoga to keep your legs happy, and just enough discussion and comradery to remind you that we’re all in this together.

Experience a day of quiet contemplation in a relaxed group setting. Instructions on how to sit zazen (“just sitting” meditation) will be provided at the beginning of the retreat and as needed throughout (we are all beginners here!). There will be dharma talks to help break up the silence and yoga breaks to ease the tension in the body and help clear the mind. Opportunity for one-on-one practice discussion with Dave will also be provided. The focus of the retreat will be on the precepts (ethical vows) - somewhere in between a promise and a riddle, at their heart they are just advice for how to live the good life. It will be an ongoing discussion of the fruitful complexity of ethics and morality in a world that is never quite as black and white as we might wish it to be. Join us for an opportunity to study them together in our words, actions, and ample silences as we take the time to watch them play out in real time along the wall"
