Zen This Week: Buddha/Brahmin Smackdown

Tuesday Night at 7 | 2 sits and the Book Study

It’s the 3rd Tuesday of the month and that means we are doing the Book Study tonight.

The book is Old Path, White Clouds by Thich Nhat Hahn.

The chapter is 60: Lady Visakha’s Grief. In which the Buddha and Brahmins have a knockdown drag-out fight . . . by which I mean they have a mutually respectful debate and Gautama quietly convinces his interlocutors to join the sangha (it sounds more dramatic the first way I said it, huh?).

You don’t have to read the book to join the discussion. We got the book on tape and listen to the chapter before talking about it. Please join us!

Saturday Morning @ 9am | 3 sits and the Heart Sutra Service

Three rounds of 25 minute sitting, clackers, bells and chanting, then coffee and cookies. How can you beat it?

If your answer was “just silent sitting beats that”, well do I have group for you!

Please check out Nashville Secular Meditation, a group that uses our space to just silently sit on Sunday mornings at 9am. More info about the group can be found on our site and their Facebook page.

Thank you everyone who braved epic traffic jams and back injuries to be with at the retreat. The Memphis Zen Community deserve special recognitions. Nashville may have beat you in the Peep battles, but you beat us thoroughly with your Great Effort. *Three Prostrations southwest to the Delta of Dharma where the mightest of Bodhisattvas abide*
